I am Drew’s wife · Colton & Emerson’s mommy · Carl & Ethlyn’s daughter · Carla’s sister · blessed to be a friend to many · Chief Student Advocate for the District of Columbia · and… a public policy PhD candidate at Virginia Tech’s Center for Public Administration and Policy.
I am a former public school educator (middle school language arts teacher) whose passion has also been manifested into my doctoral research.
My doctoral research interests are focused on the intersection where public education and public engagement meet. I am particularly interested in that intersection within the lens of urban public education reform efforts in Washington, DC.
More information regarding my professional role as Chief Student Advocate for the District of Columbia leading the work of the Office of the Student Advocate can be found at studentadvocate.dc.gov.
More About Me:
I am a proud Washington, DC resident. My husband, our two children and I reside in the beautiful Woodridge neighborhood of Ward 5, which is located in the northeast quadrant of the city.
I love my city and that love has been translated into avid community activism focused around our public school system (traditional public, DC Public Schools, and public charter). Currently, I am a board member of the Board of Library Trustees for the District of Columbia Public Library and a DC regional board member for Reading Partners DC. I am the former President of the Ward Five Council on Education, a community organization dedicated to improving the quality of education in Ward 5 and citywide.
I am blessed to be a blessing.
Thank you for joining me on this journey of self-exploration of doctoral research and conversations about community and public education – not to mention, all things Washington, DC. I look forward to sharing in this journey with you.
